The Fitzroy Community Club Inc facilities are made available to its affiliated sporting clubs and members, and it offers the use of it’s facilities year-round to community groups, public and private organisations and other sporting associations.
We pride ourselves with an inclusive, diverse, community focused environment, encouraging participation in sport and community events. The Fitzroy Community Club and its facilities has been the club of choice for many local community members over the last 30 years and we look forward to expanding our participation levels this year and beyond and see our members, supporters, sponsors and local, state and federal government members as an integral part of that expansion plan.
The Fitzroy Football Club is a not for profit community based football club that is affiliated with the Adelaide Footy League, Adelaide Footy League Women's and the SANFL Juniors League.
Our club was formed in 1925 as the Brompton Football Club in the West Torrens District League. In 1983, Brompton amalgamated with Albert Druid Sports and became known as Renown Park Football Club [Premiers in 1983 & 1985]. In 1987, Renown Park amalgamated with St Peters YCW and St Dominics [Premiers 1965, 1966, 1971 & 1974] to form the Fitzroy Football Club – The Lions.
The club name of Fitzroy came from the geographical centre-point of the five former clubs. Many of the foundation families from these different clubs are still supporting the “Lions” today. In 2017, we celebrated 30 years of Fitzroy.
Since the merger to create the club we now know as the “Lions”, we have regularly made finals and during that time we have won three A Grade premierships (1995, 2007 & 2019), four Reserves premierships (1999, 2002 – 2004), one D Grade premierships (1992), two Under 17 premierships (2001 & 2003) and our junior sides have participated in finals campaigns resulting in five premierships, the latest being in 2019 with our U14Girls squad bringing home the trophy.
During the season the club will see a reinvigorated club with new coaches across the seniors mens and womens. This season will see the club fielding three senior mens, one senior womens and nine junior sides participating in the Adelaide Footy League, Adelaide Footy Women's League & SANFL Juniors.
The Fitzroy Cricket Club was formed for the 1986/87 season, joining the Adelaide & Suburban Cricket Association in the 2017/2018 season.
Over the years Fitzroy has had much success across various grades with a total of 10 premierships in both the Independent Central. SACCA and ASCA including 6 in the A grade (1993/94, 1995/96, 2004/05, 2006/07, 2017/2018 & 2018/2019), two in the B grade (1991/92, 1998/99) and two in the C grade (2004/05 & 2010/11). Our Senior competition grades fielding teams in the 1st, 2nd & 3rd XI. 2020 saw the introduction of Junior Cricket at Fitzroy with Cricket Blast and our team competing in the Western Suburbs Junior Cricket Association. Expansion is the key direction, strategies and plans are being made to ensure our Junior Cricket programme continues to do just that.
The Fitzroy Breakaway Netball Club was formed in 2019 and sees two senior sides competing in the SA United Church Netball Association. We are new to Fitzroy and see our teams and competition status growing with every passing year. 2021 sees efforts being undertaken to have an inaugural junior netball team and our Netball cohorts are well underway in their planning.
