Here's three week's worth of cricket results to round out 2025!
In Round 8, the B-Grade hosted the Knights and pulled off a pretty comprehensive victory. Mukul Jain (2/18) and Lucas Baggio (2/24) put up impressive numbers in a bowling attack with a pretty even contribution from everyone who rolled the arm over. Fitzroy chased down the 133 required for victory in 17 overs with Obaidullah Ahmed (66) and David Blowes (40) doing the majority of the damage.
The A-Grade travelled to Greenwith to face off against the Titans. It was hard going with the bat - only Brendan Lines (19) and Nick Raymond (18) could make it in to double figures before Fitzroy found themselves all out for 69. The bowlers sent a scare through the Titans camp, with Marc Furmage (2/9) and Luke Tylkowski (1/7) giving us a glimmer of hope but ultimately, we didn't have enough runs on the board to defend, going down by four wickets.
For Round 9, the B-Grade were in action against Two Wells in Scotty Graham's backyard! Our bowlers did their job, holding Two Wells to 147 with Toqeer Ahmed (3/19), David Blowes (2/13) and Rayyan Ahmed (2/13) getting the job done. When it was our turn to bat, we were in all sorts at 5/39 before Rayyan Ahmed (74) and Siddarth Puri (40) turned it on to get us over the line with one wicket in hand... or so we thought. At the close of play, the books didn't add up, Fitzroy were sent out to get the one extra run they needed, but lost a wicket instead, the game ending in a crazy tie.
The A-Grade finally got themselves going at home against Parafield Gardens. Prashant Singh (3/9) and Nick Raymond (3/10) had the ball doing all sorts and eventually bowled Parafield Gardens out on the last ball of their innings. In reply with the bat, we saw the emergence of young Noah Raven (42*) who, at times, couldn't miss the middle of his bat. He was well supported by Nick Raymond (33) as Fitzroy worked their way to a 6 wicket win.
Coming in to the Christmas break for Round 10, the B-Grade faced off against Enfield at Thomas Turner Reserve. Vishwajit Ramesh (3/9) and Rayyan Ahmed (3/10) were the pick of the bowlers as Fitzroy dismantled Enfield's batting lineup for just 83 runs. When it was our turn to bat, Davis Blowes (31) and Tamoor Sarfraz (28) walked us home to a 5 wicket win.
Our A-Grade were looking for revenge against the Peninsula Pirates at home. Alex Voon (2/36) and Jake Burgess (2/54) were our only wicket takers. Set a target of 269 for victory, a fine captain's knock by Prashant Singh (70*) and fantastic support from Noah Raven (32) wasn't enough to get us over the line, losing by 68 runs.
To all those who celebrate, we'd like to wish you a very Merry Christmas, and to all our players and volunteers, we hope you have a relaxing couple of weeks away from cricket. We look forward to seeing you for a bat and a bowl in the New Year!
Go Roys!
